Courtyard Revival
Who wants to live in this inner-city pied-à-terre on the periphery of Sydney’s CBD? We all do!
Design firm Burley Katon Halliday created magic renovating the interiors of this home in Woolloomooloo, and we helped the vision flow to the enclosed courtyard outside.
“We feel that simplicity is the key to success when approaching inner-city gardens. In this rear courtyard, the scheme firstly addresses functionality.”
Smart recycled brickwork extends out and wraps up into the inbuilt seating, defining the space and ensuring that a large gathering or an intimate dinner can be accommodated.
The eclectic plant palette comprises a combination of native and exotic climbers that ‘green up’ the dominating wall, while large subtropical leaves envelop the copper shower, just off the bathroom at the far end of the space.
Then completing the design, at the front of the property, an array of striking succulents and cacti surround the apartment, thriving in the hot exposed position.
And let’s not forget that outdoor setting! Made by Tait’s Billy Collection table and chairs complete the design.
