Adam Goodrum Collaboration
The Coil Collection
Garden Life is proud to announce the launch of a collaboration with renowned Australian designer, Adam Goodrum.
The Coil Collection was hand-crafted by a family of artisan makers based in Marrakesh, and consists of five ribbed terracotta planters in two profiles – Handthrown Terracotta Coil and Handthrown Terracotta Coil Low.
Inspiration for the range stemmed from Adam’s childhood experiences with ceramics and later, his travels to Morocco.
“My first experience with ceramics was making coil pots at school. I loved the feel of the clay and the mechanics of repetition and geometry used in crafting them,” Adam said. “I think that’s why the iconic coiled baskets, scattered through the souks of Morocco, and containing firework coloured spices and dried flowers, are such an enduring memory from my travels there. These terracotta planters, all handmade in Morocco, reference this motif, and many fond memories.”
Adam’s design was brought to life using time-honoured methods by skilled craftsman. The individual pots are hand-built on a foot wheel below ground level, a truly ancient technique developed and unchanged over millennia. They are thrown and formed over the course of several weeks, which allows the clay to dry slightly before the next layer is built up.
Each piece is totally unique with its own characteristics and markings. Some have variations in the finish, which is part of the organic character of the material and makes each pot one-of-a-kind. Due to their handmade nature, these Moroccan made pots will always be in limited supply and are exclusive to Garden Life.
The planters work as a statement piece either by themselves, in a composition with others, or en masse for huge impact both indoors or outdoors. They lend themselves to all plant types but are especially suited for showcasing Mediterranean plant styles, such as olives and citrus trees. They also make perfect homes for cacti and succulent collections.
The Coil Collection is now available at our showroom in St Peters and via our website.
