The dark burgundy leaves of this striking bromeliad arch from a central base, and grow to about a metre across. In the mountains of its native Brazil, it grows on trees and funnels water down the leaves into its well. The plant is tolerant of hot sun as well as shadier positions, where the leaves will become a deeper green colour.

We love how the plant copes with full sun and shadier spots, so tough.
