Garden Life x Among Equals
A Shared Love of Craft and Purpose
Nestled in the heart of Paddington is a space where story, colour and craftsmanship come together in the most beautiful way. Among Equals, a women-led not-for-profit, supports over 3,000 artisan weavers in Papua New Guinea, creating vibrant bilum bags that are as rich in tradition as they are in spirit. Each bag is a handwoven expression of cultural heritage, every thread telling a story of place, resilience and community.
A Natural Alignment of Values
Founded by Caroline Sherman in 2015 after a life-changing visit to the village of Goroka, Among Equals was born from a passion for craft and a desire to empower women through economic opportunity. Inspired by the incredible artistry and colour play of the weavers she met, Caroline set out to create a brand that honours tradition, uplifts communities, and preserves the ancient practice of bilum weaving. Today, the organisation works closely with local leaders and weaving groups across Papua New Guinea, ensuring that every piece sold directly contributes to meaningful, long-term impact for women and their families.
We’ve long admired the work of Among Equals, so when the opportunity came to collaborate, it felt like a natural alignment. Both brands share a commitment to thoughtful design and meaningful connection – theirs through the ancient practice of bilum weaving, and ours through the quiet presence of gardens, objects and materials made to last.
A Visual Dialogue in Store
As part of this collaboration, we styled a selection of our Terracotta Chimneys in their Paddington store, planted with fresh greenery and featured alongside the bold colours and textures of the bilums. The pieces sit beautifully together – earthy meets bright, form meets function, purpose meets beauty. Our new Mocha colour makes its debut here too, and we couldn’t imagine a better setting for it.
There’s something special that happens when two creative worlds collide in harmony. We’re proud to be part of this story — one that honours tradition, supports women, and celebrates design that means something.
