Dover Heights Rooftop
This unused rooftop had great potential – those views! But was exposed, baking hot and utterly unwelcoming. We laid down a cost-effective fake grass mat (leaving funds to crane in a spa!) and added sturdy white custom-made pots big enough to anchor the space. Not many plants cope with the winds and heat of a rooftop, but Opuntia, Crassula and Euphorbia don’t mind at all – and the latter even successfully screens the neighbouring building. Aloe ‘Outback Orange’ adds flower colour in late winter and early spring. We added Australian-made furniture from Tait Outdoor with blue-toned upholstery that draws in the sky and the sea. The result is a much-loved spot that feels nestled and private, and allows the view to shine.
