Coastal Haven
This three-level home right behind the beach offered great opportunities – and plenty of challenges. Of the four outdoor spaces, two were protected, and two completely exposed to salt, winds, and beating sun. The range of conditions allowed us to use a wide variety of plants and create a mix of vibes around the house. On the upper levels facing the ocean, we combined our antique Turkish planters with other pot textures, and a mix of hardy succulents that thrive in the salt-laden air, for a sense of expansive openness. The lower courtyards are more intimate spaces and make use of scale in pots and planters to emphasise their sense of intimacy.
